Name: | Cesario (Viola) |
---|
By all appearances, a well-born, well-dressed 16th century page boy in his mid teens, pretty in an admittedly girlish way.
In actuality, a well-born 16th century lady in her early twenties, disguised as a boy.
After the shipwreck in which her twin brother was apparently drowned, Viola found herself washed ashore in Illyria. She disguised herself after the fashion of her twin brother and, under the name Cesario, entered the household of Duke Orsino as a gentleman servant. She quite quickly worked her way into his favor, and now serves primarily as a go-between in Orsino's extended attempt to woo the completely unimpressed Countess Olivia.
She is currently in the middle of the mysterious three-month time jump that happens at a slightly unspecific point in canon thanks Shakespeare.
A note on the disguise: obviously stage conventions don't totally make real-world sense, but whatever the cause, it is canon that Viola's disguise is very, very successful. If you think your character would be able to see through it (or if they really know their Shakespeare), let's talk! I can be contacted at rather.a.lark at gmail.com.
Viola is from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night,, which is in the public domain. They appear here solely for the purpose of role-playing in
